This project was a collaboration between Rosalind Franklin University’s College of Nursing and my design team at ID.
It addressed two main needs of Lake County, Illinois:
(1) to improve educational attainment among underserved youth
(2) to create a more highly educated and diverse nursing workforce
To solve these needs, RFU, in collaboration with a broad network of community partners, and championed the development of a Nursing Education to Workforce (NEW) Pathway for underserved youth in Lake County’s high hardship index zip codes who are interested in nursing careers.
My project partner and I were fortunate to co-design with community stakeholders to optimize the development of an equitable educational experience that better fits the needs and realities of the learners and employers. The goal was to co-design the final two programs needed to complete Phase I (high school level) of the three phased Pathway. Phase II (undergraduate) and Phase III (graduate) of the NEW Pathway are complete and well underway.
We created participatory and co-design workshop activities and discussions
We ran workshops for students and parents, interview guidance counselors
We analyzed data and synthesized opportunity areas for the program based off of the stakeholder's outputs
We built an Immersion Space for our final report to share the stories of the stakeholders and our program recommendations
Below are the exhibit panels we developed that tell the story of what we learned from the Lake County community and their design recommendations for the program.
