This poster is a theoretical information design artifact that I created for the non-profit organization Feeding America. I designed this poster to meaningfully inform audiences that are not regularly exposed to food insecurity about how their lives would drastically change if they suddenly lost the ability to eat regularly or have control over the foods they ate. The bottom of the poster gives information about how Feeding America works to give food insecure people access to fresh and healthy food, and shares ways to help them accomplish this mission. The goal of this poster would be to help food secure audiences empathize with communities that are food insecure, and motivate them to donate their money or time through volunteering.
Designing this poster was a challenge in information design. I was given a full transcript of a focus group that was conducted with adults who were battling with chronic illness, during which the participants shared how their illness affected their diet, and their views about food. I took that information and I synthesized a point of view that would relate to the request of the "client", Feeding America, who's initiative was to educate wealthier communities about food insecurity and increase their level of donations and volunteer hours.
